Health service is considered as the noblest and most important service to humankind and pharmacy sector unalterably holds key to this service. This is the sector that is responsible for medicines — from preparation to formulation to compounding to dispensing, ensuring safety, efficacy, and tolerability, as well as other activities such as designing, sustainability, and cheap and easy availability. Thus pharmacy education is so significant for the world. This education is built upon the study of pharmaceutical sciences that involve, principally, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical bio-technology. Hence pharmacy education requires a solemn study in order to provide real health service which is very essential for happy and comfortable survival of humankind.

I am genuinely delighted to express my views on Indira Gandhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IGIPS), Bhubaneswar. This sanctum sanctorum of pharmacy education was founded in the Year 1987 by Dr. G.C.Nayak, a dynamic, suave and erudite educationist. Right from its inception, the institute has progressively been providing excellent and highly prolific pharmacy education in D. Pharm, B. Pharm, and M. Pharm disciplines with soaring rate of students’ employment in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences including production and quality assurance, marketing, research & development, academics as well as entrepreneurship across organizations, universities, and industries of national and international repute. 

The institute is situated near the picturesque and ever peaceful Ekamra Kanan Botanical Park in the heart of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, and draws students from across India every year. The state-of-the-art infrastructure, highly qualified and experienced professors, the most advanced pedagogy with interactive class planning, and the Management’s proper guidance have made the institute a learning centre of excellence. Extracurricular activities, literary events, sports, etc. are held regularly in the institute with the purpose of making the students future leaders of the society.

We take proper care of our students and as a result they regularly qualify GPAT and get admissions into top-ranked institutes like NIPER, Jamia Hamdard (New Delhi), etc. Other initiatives like industrial training, study tours, conferences, seminars, workshops, skill development programs, entrepreneurship training, etc. are given priority. As a result, the institute has produced countless Drug Inspectors, Govt. Analysts and other prestigious health personnel. Public health sectors like PHC, CHC, etc. are flooded with pharmacists as the products of this institute. For this reason, IGIPS has remained a highly sought-after institute under OSBP, BPUT, and OUHS. The students are trained not only to be successful in their career but also good human beings and ideal citizens of the country. 

The institute maintains zero tolerance towards ragging and other indisciplines and runs in strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the Pharmacy Council of India and other statutory bodies as well as the Government of Odisha.
