The institute has a well-organized transport system which is used to facilitate the movement of students and sometimes staff between the institute’s hostels and the college campus. The system has dedicated buses and other transportation options, with the primary goal of providing safe, reliable, and convenient travel for students. The buses are equipped with safety features and amenities for safe and comfortable travels by the students. Safety is a top priority, with measures like trained drivers, regular maintenance, etc. The transport services are included as part of hostel fees and provides students with reliable and affordable access.

The transport is also used for off-campus activities, such as student trips, industry/hospital tours, community surveys, marketing, etc.

The institute has an animal house which is a dedicated facility designed for housing, maintaining, and studying small laboratory animals, primarily for research and teaching purposes in experimental pharmacology, toxicology, and related fields. These animals, like rats, mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs, are used in pre-clinical testing and research activities to study drug effects, understand disease mechanisms, and develop new treatments.

The animal house serves as a crucial site for conducting pre-clinical studies, which are essential for the development of new drugs and treatments. The house provides a practical learning environment for the students, allowing them to gain experience in animal handling, experimental techniques, and research methodologies. The house allows students and researchers to conduct experiments on animals, studying the effects of various drugs and chemicals.

The animal house typically includes various sections, such as quarantine areas, animal stock rooms, experimental rooms, surgical rooms, and cleaning areas. The facility is equipped with essential equipment and supplies, such as cages, water bottles, feed, and sterilization equipment, to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.

The animal house provides suitable environments for the animal species, ensuring their well-being and health. This includes maintaining appropriate temperature, humidity, lighting cycles, and providing fresh air exchange. Regular health checks and monitoring of animals are conducted to ensure their well-being and to detect any potential health issues. A veterinary doctor or qualified staff are often available to provide animal care and address any health concerns.

The facility operates under the strict guidelines of the Institutioal Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) which is registered with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CCSEA), a statutory body that regulates animal experimentation in India.

Medicinal plants have always played a pivotal role in sustaining human health since time immemorial. In recent years, there has been an upsurge in the usage of medicinal plants by the people. Looking into the growing demand for herbal products, Indira Gandhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bhubaneswar, maintains a herbal garden within its campus with several important medicinal plants used in Indian System of Medicine. The garden owes a diverse selection of medicinal plants, including both common and rare species that serves as a living laboratory for the students in their education and research. The garden provides hands-on learning opportunities for students and serves as a valuable resource for researchers investigating the properties of medicinal plants. By showcasing the healing properties of plants, the garden can promote a greater understanding of herbal medicines and their benefits for community health and wellness.
